blip08 afterparty report

i haven’t seen much posted about the blip08 afterpary. and sure, what goes on at the afterparty stays at the afterparty … but that rule now remains true only for pictures and videos ;)

except for the 1 above of aonami who played a banging warm-up set that had people bouncing their heads off the low ceiling. also big thanks to aonami for letting me use his mixer with delay and filter!

my own set went real well, played babinkie (track i originally did up for the blockparty07 invite) off my gp2x running piggy, transitioned into my ds10 track from the diplodocus compo, into a gameboy corpse that i worked on with jason/jeremiah/tim/chris/anyone else who touched that cart, and ended things with a tweaked version of motherbones. it was a little extra tweaked as piggy crashed before i got to the blistering noise bit, but that was fine since i was already getting the _timeUp signals from the djs.

saskrotch played last and … i’ll say it outright: about a 4th of the people there stripped down durring his set. between the absolute-last-act-of-blip08 timeslot, his crunchy breakcore style, and rigo pex (aka meneo) raising the bar … things got roudy! it was a highlight seeing the packed crowd moving around minus any inhebitions, plus the respect, multiplied with smiles. awesome!

djs suzan, jayson diamond, & natty kept that raw energy rocking all the way through after that. we got shut down soon after 4am at which point everyone slowly made their way towords the cold out doors stopping for congrats, warm hugs and goodbye-till-soons.

all in all the night felt like a proper conclution to blip08. it was mostly performers that had managed to stay awake for the party and the tight-knit family-vibe was in full effect. southpaw basement was a great choice with a good balance of space to dance and couches to chill on. i had put the mindcandy2 dvd on random-demos and it was projected through the night (thanks phoenix). cowboy mark did a nice job of keeping sound up while people rolled into the place.

on my flight home i was mulling over what acts could 1up the energy witnessed at blip08. after careful consideration i think only passenger of shit could possibly top the mischevious sets we saw from rolemodel, meneo, minusbaby, and stu. big respect to 8bp & the tank for bringing us blip, again!
